USDCHF Extends Losses as Iran MOU Weighs on Dollar Ahead of Fed, SNB Decisions

USDCHF Extends Losses as Iran MOU Weighs on Dollar Ahead of Fed, SNB Decisions

USDCHF slid below key moving averages amid dollar weakness triggered by U.S.-Iran developments, with traders eyeing support levels ahead of central bank meetings.

USDCHF Faces Downside Momentum Amid Dollar Weakness

The USDCHF pair extended its decline on Monday, pressured by broad-based dollar weakness following reports of a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran. The development dampened risk appetite and fueled a gap lower at the open, pushing the pair below its 200-hour moving average at 0.7950.

Both the Federal Reserve and the Swiss National Bank are expected to hold interest rates steady this week, with the Fed concluding its policy meeting on Wednesday and the SNB following on Thursday. However, the dollar's softness has overshadowed rate expectations, as markets digest geopolitical developments and their potential impact on global risk sentiment.

Technical Breakdown and Key Levels

The pair's drop below the 200-hour MA reinforced bearish momentum, with sellers maintaining control through North American trading. A corrective bounce near the moving average attracted fresh selling interest, signaling sustained downward pressure. USDCHF is now testing a former resistance zone between 0.7923 and 0.7926, which previously capped gains on April 9, April 29-30, and June 3. A decisive break below 0.7923 could open the door to the next key support area between 0.7901 and 0.7905.

That zone encompasses the 50% retracement of the April-to-May decline at 0.7901 and the 200-day moving average at 0.7905, marking a critical technical juncture. Last week's rally into the 0.8009-0.8018 region failed to sustain, with sellers defending the area and triggering a reversal below the 100-hour MA near 0.7970.

Trader Implications and Outlook

With the dollar under scrutiny and central banks poised to maintain status quo, USDCHF remains vulnerable to further downside. Traders are likely to monitor the 0.7923-0.7926 zone closely, as a break could accelerate losses toward the 200-day MA. Conversely, a bounce may offer short-term relief but faces strong resistance overhead.

Risk sentiment remains cautious amid geopolitical uncertainty, while inflation and yield dynamics stay secondary to near-term dollar flows. The pair's trajectory will hinge on upcoming central bank communications and any fresh catalysts from the U.S.-Iran relationship.
