Today's Forex Market Outlook: ECB Accounts, US Jobless Claims, and Fed Speakers

Markets await US CPI and Fed speakers amid consolidation. Key events and implications for Forex traders.

Market Overview: Limited European Session, Focus Shifts to US Data

The European session offers minimal catalysts, with the ECB accounts scheduled for release. However, the report is unlikely to drive significant market moves as its data is already priced in. Markets are currently extending recoveries from yesterday's lows following de-escalation efforts by former President Trump regarding Iran tensions. Traders anticipate a period of consolidation ahead of the critical US CPI report on Tuesday.

American Session: US Jobless Claims in Focus

The primary event in the American session is the US Jobless Claims data. Initial claims are projected at 217K, slightly above the previous 215K, while continuing claims are expected to hold steady at 1814K. Unless there is a major deviation, the data is unlikely to shift market dynamics. The US labor market has shown resilience, with the unemployment rate declining to 4.2% in June from a peak of 4.5% in November 2025. This trend underscores the Fed's renewed emphasis on inflation as the primary policy concern.

Central Bank Speakers: Fed, SNB, and BoE Commentary

Key central bank officials will speak throughout the day. At 13:00 GMT, Fed's Williams (neutral, voter) will address the market, followed by SNB's Martin (neutral, voter) at 16:00 GMT. Later, Fed's Logan (hawkish, voter) at 17:30 GMT and BoE's Breeden (neutral, voter) at 19:30 GMT will provide insights. Their remarks could influence risk sentiment and bond yields, particularly ahead of the CPI release.

Implications for Forex Traders

With limited European catalysts, traders are likely to focus on technical levels and positioning ahead of Tuesday's US CPI. A stronger-than-expected CPI could reignite rate-cut expectations, pressuring the dollar index (DXY). Conversely, a softer reading may support risk assets. The DXY remains the key barometer for global risk sentiment, with EURUSD and GBPUSD sensitive to Fed policy signals. Jobless Claims data, while secondary, could offer clues on labor market stability, indirectly impacting rate outlook.
