Nasdaq Near Key Support as Tech Stocks Slide Ahead of Close

Nasdaq hits intraday low near 100-hour MA; QQQ ETF down 1.5% as AMD, Micron, and Broadcom weigh on tech sector.

Nasdaq Tests Critical Technical Support Amid Broad Market Decline

Major U.S. equity indices extended losses into the final trading hour on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq Composite falling to a fresh intraday low of 26,404.16. The move brought the index within striking distance of its 100-hour moving average at 26,380.94, a key technical support level closely watched by traders.

The Nasdaq was last seen trading at 26,478.04, down 0.78% (-207 points) for the session. A decisive break below the 100-hour MA could open the door to further downside, with the 200-hour moving average at 26,298.71 acting as the next critical support zone.

QQQ ETF Dragged Lower by Semiconductor Weakness

The Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ), which tracks the Nasdaq-100, declined 1.5% amid broad weakness in its top holdings. Semiconductor stocks led the slide, with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) down 5.53%, Micron Technology (MU) falling 4.42%, and Broadcom (AVGO) dropping 3.62%. These three positions alone account for over 11% of the ETF’s weight.

Apple (AAPL) and Alphabet (GOOGL) were among the few gainers in the top 10, rising 0.63% and 0.84% respectively. However, losses in Microsoft (MSFT) and NVIDIA (NVDA), both down around 1.65%, added to the downward pressure.

Implications for Risk Sentiment and Forex Markets

The tech-heavy sell-off reflects renewed concerns over growth valuations and monetary tightening risks. With the Federal Reserve maintaining a hawkish stance, equity markets remain vulnerable to shifts in rate expectations. A sustained break below key moving averages could reinforce bearish momentum, weighing on risk-sensitive currencies such as the Australian dollar (AUD), New Zealand dollar (NZD), and emerging market FX crosses.

Conversely, a bounce from the 100-hour MA cluster may offer short-term relief, supporting a tentative recovery in global risk appetite. Traders will monitor upcoming U.S. economic data and Fed commentary for cues on policy trajectory.

Key Watch Levels

  • Support: 100-hour MA at 26,380.94; 200-hour MA at 26,298.71
  • Resistance: Intraday high at 26,600
