German Inflation Confirmed at 2.3% in June, Energy Prices Ease

Germany's June CPI and HICP inflation data confirmed at 2.3% and 2.4% respectively, with energy price pressures easing but core inflation remaining sticky.

German Inflation Data Meets Expectations, Energy Pressures Diminish

Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) confirmed headline annual inflation at 2.3% for June, aligning with preliminary estimates and marking a slight deceleration from May's 2.6%. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) also held steady at 2.4% year-on-year, down from 2.7% in May.

Energy prices continued to rise at an above-average rate, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions including the Iran conflict, but their year-on-year increase slowed to 3.4% in June from 6.6% in May and 10.1% in April. Food price inflation also moderated, rising by 0.4% compared to the previous month's below-average pace.

Core Inflation Remains Elevated Amid Services Pressure

Core inflation, which excludes energy and food, remained unchanged at 2.5% in June, with services inflation rising 3.1% annually. This stickiness in core prices underscores persistent underlying price pressures, complicating the European Central Bank's (ECB) path toward monetary easing.

The ECB may find some relief in the reduced energy price volatility, but risks from the Middle East and broader geopolitical uncertainty continue to cloud the inflation outlook. Markets are likely to monitor upcoming ECB policy signals closely.

Implications for EURUSD and Risk Sentiment

For Forex traders, the data reinforces the EURUSD pair's sensitivity to ECB policy expectations. While the easing energy pressures provide short-term support for the euro, sticky core inflation and global risk factors could limit significant upside. Technical resistance near 1.0850 and support around 1.0700 remain key levels.

Risk sentiment remains cautious amid Middle East tensions, with investors balancing inflation dynamics against potential supply chain disruptions. Bond yields and equity markets may react to further geopolitical developments.
